The Human Torch (Chrome), also known as Robert "Bob" Frank, is a Marvel Comics character with a history predating the more famous Johnny Storm version. Created during the Golden Age of Comics, Bob Frank debuted in Marvel Mystery Comics #4 (1939), published by Timely Comics, a predecessor to Marvel.
Bob Frank gained his powers after being exposed to radiation during a scientific experiment. He possessed the ability to absorb and emit energy, enabling him to achieve super speed and generate intense heat. He didn't burst into flame like Johnny Storm; instead, his body took on a chrome-like sheen when fully powered.
He briefly operated as a member of the superhero team, the Liberty Legion, during World War II alongside other heroes. However, his character faded into relative obscurity after the Golden Age, overshadowed by the later Human Torch of the Fantastic Four. Though not as widely recognized, Robert Frank's Human Torch remains a significant figure in Marvel's early history, representing one of its first attempts at a fiery superhero.
